My publicity agent at Penguin has scolded me for neglecting my blog and has told me to pay attention to it on a regular basis.
She didn't specify what 'paying attention to it' actually means, so maybe I can get away with coming on here every once and a while and sharing links, so that I don't have to actually write about writing. I find that writing about writing is particularly hard. I would far rather watch The Muppets perform "Bohemian Rhapsody."
In fact, that is a fantastic idea ...

Okay, so I suck at blogging.

Can someone explain to me why?

I like the excuse that I'm too busy writing, but that would be an outright lie, as I'm not too busy writing because I'm taking a wee break while I edit the galleys for "The Gryphon Project," and "Jacked." So I guess I could say that I'm too busy editing to write blog posts, but that's not true either, because it doesn't take all day to edit galleys.

Maybe it's because my computer sucks. I need a new one. The keyboard is fussy, and the internet won't play any flash, and something is wiggy with my wireless connection.

Sigh ...

I have a new crush, on the guy who designed the cover for The Gryphon Project.

His name is Sam Weber, and I love him.

Well, maybe not him, but his oh-so-brilliant brain definitely.

Check out the brain in question ... and then report back to me. If you are not moved in a meaningful way, then you are not human.

But then, if you are not human, you might just find yourself in a Sam Weber illustration, which would be very cool.

This girl gets A for effort. Two posts in one day!

I figured that some of you might actually want to know what's up, writerly speaking.

Last week, I was at Port Moody Public Library expounding to a fine group of yoots about all things bookish and the tangents that come along with chatting to a room of interesting people for an hour.

Then later that day I was at North Vancouver Public Library to be a part of the launch for the Stellar Award, which is voted on and awarded by young readers (along with the excellent help and brilliance of Allison the Lovely Librarian).

"The Beckoners" won a couple years ago, and the fabulous Diane Tullson won last year for "Red Sea" ... and we're both nominated again this year, so we were invited to help launch this year's program. Diane rocks. She brought props. Always smart.

And to that kid from Argyle ... you are most definitely a writer, dude. Seriously.

As for writing. I've just sent off another proposal for a Soundings to Andrew at Orca Books.

(Andrew, if you're reading this, get back to me with a yay or nay already, would you?)

And I'm waiting to get the manuscript for "The Gryphon Project" back from Penguin. When that shows up (Jen? Soon?) I'll get started on another round of edits.

In the meantime, I am mourning the lack of snow. Snow shoes just look stupid on grass and mud. Skis look even stupider. And don't even get me started on snowmobiles ...

Clearly, if my house was on fire, the first thing I would grab is NOT my blog.

It has sat, sorely neglected, in a dark and dusty corner of my brain.

Why?

Because I'm not very good at sharing.

But people tell me that blogs are important. And as a writer, they're very important ... a way to 'connect' to my readers. Ok. So here we go. Connecting ... now!

Did you feel it? Did you feel even slightly, momentarily connecting to the being that is Carrie Mac?

I didn't feel anything on my side of things.

But I think that is a flaw in myself, and not the universe at large.

So, I will attempt to pay more attention to this blog in 2009. Not that it will ever become the first thing I'll grab if the house is on fire.

The Church of the Holy Cross in S'katin, BC. This is one of the oldest churches in western Canada, and is the only one with three spires. What a sight to behold as you're barreling along the logging road in the middle of nowhere, with the rain pounding down and the wind howling ... and as you take the curve, those ominous spires all of a sudden reaching up from the village by the river.
